Jennine Brandt, MD

Family Medicine & Addiction Medicine

Jennine Brandt is a board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine with over two decades of experience in the treatment of substance use disorders. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas in 1995 and completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee, where she served as Chief Resident from 1997-1998. She further advanced her training through a fellowship in Addiction Medicine with the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry from 2002 to 2004. Dr. Brandt currently practices as a physician with the Substance Abuse Treatment Team (SATT) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Affairs Health System in Gainesville, Florida. She has dedicated 24 years to the practice of addiction medicine within the Veterans Affairs system, providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population. Her professional background also includes distinguished military service in the United States Air Force from 1998 to 2002, where she served at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, and achieved the rank of Major (O-4). Dr. Brandt brings extensive clinical expertise in family medicine and addiction medicine, with a longstanding commitment to improving outcomes for individuals affected by substance use disorders. Her depth of experience supports a strong, evidence-based approach to patient care and peer review.

Melissa Brown, BSN, RN, CPN

Pediatric Nursing & Nursing Education

Melissa Brown is a registered nurse with board certification in pediatrics and over 11 years of experience in clinical practice and nursing education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Psychology and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. Ms. Brown’s clinical experience is grounded in pediatrics, critical care, and emergency nursing. She served as a bedside and charge nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UF Health from 2015 to 2020, followed by practice in a pediatric outpatient allergy clinic from 2020 to 2021. She later provided care in emergency department settings, treating both adult and pediatric populations at UF Health from 2022 to 2024. In her academic role, Ms. Brown delivers didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction across multiple areas of nursing education, including pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology, and foundational nursing practice. She is actively involved in curriculum development, serves as a faculty lead for student mentorship, and contributes to accreditation efforts in preparation for ACEN reaccreditation. Her areas of expertise include pediatric nursing, critical care and emergency nursing, and pediatric simulation.

Alexandra M. Hanna, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, RN

Psychiatric-Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment

Alexandra M. Hanna is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in psychiatric care, substance use treatment, critical care nursing, and military medicine. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner concentration from Jacksonville University in 2021 and currently serves with the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System’s Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) in Lake City, Florida. Ms. Hanna specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of complex psychiatric and substance use disorders. Her clinical practice focuses on trauma-informed care, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychopharmacology, crisis intervention, and evidence-based substance use treatment. She brings more than three decades of healthcare experience, including 11 years of service in the Air National Guard as an aerospace medical specialist, and prior practice as an LPN, RN, and PMHNP. Ms. Hanna’s diverse clinical background and expertise in psychiatric assessment, substance use treatment, and interdisciplinary collaboration contribute to a thoughtful, objective, and rigorous approach to peer review.

Kari A. Mattox, DNP, J.D., PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, RN

Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine & Primary Care

Kari A. Mattox is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with nearly a decade of advanced practice nursing experience across psychiatry, addiction medicine, primary care, and occupational health. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Juris Doctor, and Doctor of Philosophy, all earned from the University of Florida. Most recently, Dr. Mattox served as a Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse at the Florida Recovery Center at UF Health Shands, providing care to patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Prior to her advanced practice career, she developed extensive clinical experience as a registered nurse in critical care and perioperative settings. As an advanced practice provider, she also practiced in occupational health within a large academic healthcare system. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Mattox has held leadership and administrative roles in higher education, including service as Assistant Dean for Students at the University of Florida College of Law. Her broad clinical background, advanced academic preparation, and leadership experience support a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to peer review.

Cheryl K. Roche, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Family Practice & Gastroenterology

Cheryl K. Roche is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over three decades of experience in nursing and advanced clinical practice. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North Florida in April 2011, completing a primary care track that supports her comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care. Ms. Roche is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and currently practices in gastroenterology with Borland Grover. Her extensive clinical background includes 31 years of direct patient care, spanning roles as a registered nurse and advanced practice provider across outpatient, inpatient, and rehabilitation settings. She brings a strong clinical foundation in internal medicine and gastroenterology, with a depth of experience that supports high-quality, evidence-based patient care and clinical decision-making.

Anthony Roller, DNP, APRN, CPNP A/C-P/C, TNCC

Pediatric Primary Care & Critical Care

Anthony Roller is a Doctor of Nursing Practice–prepared advanced practice provider and active-duty Lieutenant in the United States Navy, currently serving in pediatrics at Naval Medical Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC). He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Florida and brings a diverse background in clinical care, academia, and military service. Dr. Roller has over 10 years of experience as an advanced practice provider, complemented by a decade of prior experience as a registered nurse in pediatric intensive care units at UF Health Shands in both Gainesville and Jacksonville. In addition to his clinical practice, he contributed to nursing education as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida from 2021 to 2025, where he also served as Pediatric Primary Care Track Coordinator. Dr. Roller holds dual certification in pediatrics in both acute care and primary care and serves as a peer reviewer for the American Academy of Pediatrics. His professional interests include pediatric primary care and the care of children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder.

Jessie Thomas, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Orthopedic & Surgical Care

Jessie Thomas is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in healthcare, specializing in orthopedic and surgical patient care. He earned his Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and currently practices with Advanced Orthopedics Institute, where he provides care in both outpatient and operative settings. In his current role, Mr. Thomas divides his practice between clinical and surgical responsibilities, providing patient care in the orthopedic clinic three days per week and assisting in the operating room two days per week. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, he developed a diverse nursing background across long-term care, skilled nursing, psychiatric care, medical-surgical nursing, home health, cardiac step-down care, emergency medicine, transplant services, and behavioral health. Mr. Thomas’s broad clinical foundation contributes to a well-rounded approach to patient care and supports strong clinical judgment for evidence-based peer review.
